JANET
SEIDEL PLAYS NEW YORK
Song stylist Janet Seidel
is fast establishing an international reputation as one of Australias
most accomplished cabaret performers. During November, in addition
to her Melbourne & Wangaratta engagements, she appeared in
the Japanese cities of Nagoya, Okayama and Tokyo, then on to New
York where, with her brother David
on double bass and Chuck Morgan
on guitar, Seidel gave concerts at Chez Suzette and Regents.
Veteran New York cabaret performer, Steve Ross,
currently appearing at the Stanhope Park Hyatt, took the time
to catch her performance at the Regent, as did Cabaret
Hotlines Stu Hamstra. He wrote in Cabaret
Hotline I had heard so much about this delightful
jazz star from Australia, but I was still not prepared for this
awesome performance. I have never been so thrilled by a performer
I had not seen before since I saw Barb Jungr at Joes Pub several
months ago. This lady is amazing such pure clean vocals.
Since returning home from overseas. Seidel
has appeared with Tommy Tycho and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra
in the Adelaide Festival Theatre in early December, and will give
two performances of Christmas
with Janet Seidel on 13 and 20 December
as part of the Cabaret Headliners
series at the National Press Club in Canberra.
Cabaret Headliners
at The National Press Club in Canberra.
In February 2003 the National Press Club in
Canberra established a Cabaret Headliners
series to showcase the work of outstanding cabaret performers.
The National Press Club provides fine dining
and a glamorous setting for the evenings, and in addition to the
cabaret which are curated and hosted by Bill
Stephens who ran The School of
Arts Café in Queanbeyan until it closed at the end
of 2000. Cabaret Headliners commenced
at The National Press Club with a season by Janet
Seidel and during the year has hosted seasons by Geraldine
Turner, Judi Connelli,
Geoff Harvey, Chelsea Plumley,
Melissa Langton, Todd McKenney,
Louise Page, Hayden Tee,
Johnny Nicole,
Natalie Gamsu, Steve Ross
and The Rat Packs Back.
Janet Seidel will round off the
year with two performances of a special program entitled Christmas
with Janet Seidel to be presented on 13 and 20 December.
The 2004 series commences with Indian performer
Bobby Cash.

Well-known stage and television actress Maggie
Kirkpatrick has commenced a season of
her one-woman show Still Here
at the new Sydney venue Kabaret Voltaire. Dubbed by some as Australias
answer to Elaine Stritch, and accompanied by the urbane Andrew
Ross on piano, Kirkpatrick is wowing
her audiences with her highly amusing collection of songs and
reminiscences. Her season at Kabaret Voltaire runs until 20 December.
