Philip Gould

Philip has enjoyed his love for theatre since the age of seven when he first appeared in a panto for J.C.Williamsons. Not only did his success come through the theatre but also in television with the ever popular Young Talent Time.

Just prior to going to England in 1984, Philip’s career in theatre took off again first of all with MORE CANTERBURY TALES and the well coveted role of Tony in WEST SIDE STORY.

Philip lived overseas in London from 1984–1993 where he represented Australia in both theatre and television events. Philip has performed in such shows as NITE-CLUB CONFIDENTIAL, SHOW BOAT, OKLAHOMA, BUDDY, and the famous 42nd STREET. He also performed in a production of Kurt Weill’s STREET SCENE for the English National Opera at the Colosseum theatre London and Scottish Opera, not only for one season but for 4 of them and performing his song Moon Faced Starry Eyed with the likes of Caroline O’Connor and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Other credits include several Royal Command, Children’s Royal & Gala Performances for all the Royals and a special night at the Covent Garden opera house where he got to work alongside Princess Diana.

Philip has performed many roles in many shows in Australia such as Cable in SOUTH PACIFIC, Ralphe Rackstraw HMS PINAFORE, Gaylord Ravena l– SHOW BOAT, George – SHE LOVES ME (opposite Lisa McCune), in COMPANY with the Melbourne Theatre Co. and FORBIDDEN BROADWAY. Most recently he played the role of Rooster in ANNIE (for which he won a Greenroom Award) and Lord Evelyn Oakleigh in ANYTHING GOES (also nominated).

Apart from MUSIC MAN for the Production Co., Philip’s latest venture was playing the role of the Tinman for 14 months in WIZARD OF OZ and now looking forward to opening his own Music, Dance & Acting Academy and also a series of concerts with his family.

An extremely important project called Peace Within with his wife Kate, which will include a Peace Within concert. This is a huge undertaking and covers a worldwide span for WORLD PEACE in these troubled times. Philip’s latest tread on the boards will be with the Production Co. Playing the lead of Albert Peterson in the show Bye-Bye Birdie.

Kate Lawson

Kate grew up in a theatrical family, and was involved in performing and directing from a very young age. She choreographed her first show at the age of 12 years (Jonah Man Jazz with St. Barnabas and St Philips School in West London), and later worked as choreographer to Ken and Jan Smith’s dance troupes.

Since graduating with honours from Bristol University, and completing postgraduate studies and the London College of Music, Kate has pursued a very varied career. As well as performing several leading roles in repertory companies in England, she also spent nine months as part of the NEW ISRAELI OPERA COMPANY in Tel Aviv, under the baton of such conductors as Zubin Mehta. Whilst there, she also took extra work as soloist in both opera and oratorio.

Back in London, she appeared in SHOWBOAT at the London Palladium, starting as ensemble member and cover, and eventually taking the role of Magnolia for part of the national tour.

She spent a number of years as a principle performer in the STADIUM THEATRE COMPANY with P&O, performing a wide repertoire of roles from Laurie in OKLAHOMA, Elena in BUDDY, and Polly in DAMES AT SEA, to Cleopatra in THE MUMMY’S TOMB, Vera in TEN LITTLE INDIANS and Jacqui in DON’T DRESS FOR DINNER.

Since being in Australia, she has been busy with four children, but has managed to keep up her performing, singing at Church services, and performing many concerts with her husband, Philip Gould at arts centres in Victoria, including the Melbourne Concert Hall, The State Theatre and Good Morning Australia.

She has also expanded the other side of her career which is teaching and directing.

She has taught singing, dance and drama for ten years, including musical theatre workshops, and has directed, choreographed or musically directed many shows.
